NTC Logistics recently completed a complex end-to-end logistics operation for a 500 MVA Power Transmission and Transformation Project in Turkmenistan. This ambitious project involved the transportation of 29 heavy-duty transformers, each measuring 12.4 meters in length, 4.61 meters in width, and 4.85 meters in height, along with accessories, totaling 19,170 FRT. The cargo was moved from the manufacturing unit in Karjan, Gujarat, to multiple project sites under Turkmen Energo in Turkmenistan.

Despite several challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and navigating permissions through India, Turkey, Russia, and Turkmenistan, NTC Logistics provided a seamless multi-modal logistics solution. The journey began with first-mile transportation from Gujarat to Kandla Port, followed by heavy-lift break bulk vessels to Haydarpasa Port, Turkey. From there, the cargo was transferred onto river-going vessels bound for Turkmenbashi Port, and hydraulic trailers and rail rakes were utilized for the final mile to the project sites.

Key to this successful operation was the collaboration between NTC’s project and heavy lift teams, the client, and various government and private agencies. Detailed planning and asset coordination ensured the operation’s smooth flow, from vessel tracking to allocating resources. Leveraging our in-house Customs House Agency, NTC expedited customs clearance and formalities, ensuring no delays at the port.

At Haydarpasa, NTC arranged for two 500 MT cranes to overcome the absence of heavy-duty cranes and facilitated the transfer of transformers onto smaller vessels. To account for the freezing of the Volga-Don Canal during winter, NTC secured storage for six months at Haydarpasa Port until the canal reopened. Despite the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war and limited sailings, NTC proactively sourced alternate vessels, ensuring uninterrupted project delivery.
