MULTIMODAL PROJECT LOGISTICS
Multimodal Project Logistics
The project involved transporting 375 Tons of electrical Generator stator using a specialized carrying tool, Girder Bridge. The project covered a 1600 km route involving hauling in bustling National Highway and required traffic management. The lack of infrastructure for super heavy cargo meant that the completion of logistics using a single mode of transport is impossible. Hence NTC’s end-to-end logistics involved synchronized multi-modal movement on the road, barge, and sea with care taken to minimize en-route storage as much as possible.
The crossing of long-span bridges required constructing a temporary bypass road of 1.2 km parallel to the existing bridge on Hasdeo river, Chhattisgarh. However, the team managed to cross many weak bridges successfully without needing to construct more bypasses resulting in the reduction of the distance of about 400km. Further, a part of the route had high risks while traveling through the areas controlled by Naxalites. Despite the above challenges, the NTC Group delivered the generator stator within the stipulated time that helped catch the earliest vessel to the destination.
