As the production of renewable energy sources continues to expand, NTC Logistics is committed to supporting clients in the wind energy sector during this rapid growth phase. Recently, NTC was awarded the pre-carriage logistics contract to transport 300 wind turbine generator (WTG) rotor blades, each measuring 75.4 meters in length, from the TPI Factory in Oragadam to Tuticorin Port.

Challenges Encountered

The project faced significant logistical challenges, particularly concerning a railway underpass at Chinnalapatty. The total height of the consignment, including the trailer, reached 5.86 meters, while the maximum permissible clearance at the underpass was only 5.72 meters. This discrepancy presented a formidable obstacle that could potentially delay the project.

Further exploration of alternative routes revealed that while they existed, they were not feasible due to the extensive road development required, leading to increased transit distances and durations. Thus, it became imperative to find a solution that adhered to the planned route while overcoming the height limitation.

Innovative Solutions

Leveraging the expertise of our dedicated transportation Research & Development (R&D) team, NTC Logistics embarked on a strategic approach to modify our specialized telescopic trailer. Through meticulous engineering, we successfully reduced the overall height of the consignment from 5.86 meters to 5.69 meters, thereby creating a crucial 30mm clearance between the cargo and the railway bridge.

This innovative solution enabled the safe passage of the rotor blades without compromising the integrity of the shipment or the infrastructure. Our team’s proactive approach and technical expertise not only ensured compliance with safety regulations but also maintained the project timeline.
